Preserving and flavoring the Blackstone griddle

I have been using propane grill with rocks for years until I got the Blackstone griddle a couple of years back and I fell in love with it.

I find myself cooking in it more that just BBQ grilling during lunch or dinner. I cook breakfast for even grilled cheese sandwiches during lunch time (for 4 kids here) which make meals done quickly in a short amount of time and kitchen is more easier to keep clean.

Anyone here use Blackstone? What do you use to preserves and flavor the griddle?

I read up so many tips and suggestions on the net but so far plain vegetable oil seems to be working out for us.

How expensive is avocado oil? Just fry up some bacon and collect the grease, throw it in a jar and keep in the fridge.

Nobody in our household eat bacon :p

Avocado oil run about 8 dollar a bottle or 40 dollar a gallon and the smoke temp at around 520 to 575. I don't recall cooking anything at this high of a temp so it would use very little oil while cooking and a bottle should last a whole year.

The hamburgers are best cook at with the temp set at 375 or so and the bacon smoke temp is only at 325.

Try cooking your burgers low and slow. I smoke my burgers around 225 for about an hour and a half. They turn a burgundy color, are smokey, and very juicy.

My wife smoke our burger in our electric smoker when we are in mood for smoked burger but my all my 4 children don't like their burger smoked .. they rather have it grilled with no additional flavoring to it.

Kids, whadaya do?
A little off topic ... back in February we had three of the grandkids over for a sleep over. I made chicken nuggets and french fries from scratch using fresh chicken breasts and potatoes. Potatoes were double fried. Wife and I thought they both turned out great. One of the 4 year old twins took a bite out of a chicken nugget, looks at me with a sad face and says "Pop, McDonalds is better". I ended up making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for her.
